HALF MARATHON TRAINING PROGRAM

Eye-Q Two Cities Marathon and Half - November 7, 2010

See video answers to some common questions about the training here.

There will be a group organizational and orientation meeting on Friday, August 6 at 7:00pm at the boot camp office in NW Fresno. Be there if you can. If not, we'll make the information available to you.

Fresno Adventure Boot Camp is proud to once again be an official training partner for the Eye-Q Two Cities Marathon and a Half to be held here in Fresno on November 7, 2010. This year will be the 3rd year the race has been held here, and each year, it grows in excitement, size, and notoriety. The past two years have sold out at 3,000 runners, and 5,000 runners, and this year, though the race will max at 7,000 runners, registrations are already double what they have been in the past two years!

Many of the boot campers at Fresno Adventure Boot Camp come to camp saying that they are "not runners", but more often than not, those are famous last words. Running is an excellent way to improve fitness in so many ways. Fresno Adventure Boot Camp consistently incorporates running and other great forms of cardio-vascular exercise, to burn calories, improve lung capacity, help heart health, and so many other great benefits. Many who say they are not runners do so because they have labeled themselves so at some point in the past. But the truth is that as their fitness level increases, so does their ability to run long distances without tiring as quickly, and an amazing thing happens - they catch the running bug. The high of endorphins, the advantage of being outdoors, and so many other things. Soon, they are convinced to run a 5K, a 10K, and they realize that it is completely and totally possible to do what they thought was impossible only months before. Most of our 2009 half marathon training team fit into this category! See a slideshow of last year's training group here.

I think the training was done really well. The web tools were a really cool BONUS feature both for my personal use and to stay motivated by reading other runners' posts. The presentation was first class (the running shirts were top notch), providing water at the halfway points, GU's, bananas, etc. REALLY an AWESOME job!

I am *so* glad I signed up for the program. I never would have made the 13.1 miles without it, because I would have decided that running was for the birds by the first 5 mile run. But knowing there would be lots of other people doing the Saturday run together in Woodward Park, some of them as nervous as I was about the miles, kept me going for one more mile. The company, conversation, shared good and bad days (and seeing it's not just me who has bad days), well-timed encouragement emails and general encouragement and "happy funness" of Karey, Kelly, and Shawna was *much* needed and kept me going.

You guys seem to have a genuine concern for all of us in the group. Your knowledge and support were helpful. I like the positive can do attitude you project. Running 13.1 miles was a big deal. I was very apprehensive. You got me over that.

What a great group. It was wonderful to meet new people and do something so great. I checked something off my "bucket list" for life and had a great time doing it. You can't ask for much more than that.
